Meaning / 01

What it means for retail and category teams

Competitor price monitoring works best on a deliberate scope: the lines where a competitor's price should change what you do, such as known-value items, high-volume lines and categories where shoppers compare. In twelfth that scope is the tracked set: a fixed basket of the customer's SKUs, connected to the retailer feeds collected against it.

Stakes / 02

Why it matters

A focused set keeps matching quality high and the weekly read short enough to act on. Tracking everything tends to produce thousands of comparisons, many of them weak matches, and hides the gaps that matter. Choosing the set is a commercial decision in its own right.

How Twelfth handles this

The tracked set and its price history belong to the workspace; filters change only what a person sees. Owners and admins manage the basket and the selected retailer feeds, and the workspace plan sets how many SKUs and retailers the set can contain. Each row shows where the product is matched, its observed price position and when it was last seen.

Example / 04

Illustrative example

The business and figures are illustrative. None of it is customer data.

A pet retailer's tracked set after one month: 260 of 6,000 lines
Kept from the first 250220
Added from a category a competitor is cutting40
Result30 dropped: no reliable match

The set stays small and gets sharper: weak matches out, a live category in.

Read the example as text

A pet retailer with 6,000 lines starts with a tracked set of 250: its top-selling dry food and litter lines and the accessories it knows shoppers compare. After a month it drops 30 lines that never had a reliable match, keeps 220, and adds 40 from a category where one competitor has started cutting prices. The set is 260 lines, about 4% of the range.
